Ability Score Scaling
The Ability Score Scaling feature will automatically try to
detect which ability score the monster uses as its primary attack
stat and scale it up or down based on the target CR. It does this
by checking which ability score modifier plus the proficiency
bonus is equal to the attack bonus. However, if the monster
happens to have other ability scores that have the same modifier
as its primary attack stat, those will accidentally get scaled as
well with this current version of the tool.
Note: In order to work properly, the proficiency bonus and
attack bonus fields can not be left empty.
The tool will also automatically scale the monster's
Constitution score up or down independent of the other scores.
Unfortunately, Wizards of the Coast has not revealed if there is
a specific formula they use to determine a monster's ability
scores, so I performed some regression analysis on the official
monsters they've made and came up with an equation that pretty
closely models the relatively linear relationship between CR and
Constitution score (thanks to
u/RufflesDMAccount on reddit for putting together an amazing
spreadsheet).
Note: At the moment, only the monster's primary attack stat and
Constitution score will be scaled. It's other stats will remain
the same regardless of CR.
HP Die Expression
If you are the type of person who prefers to roll monster HP,
you can use the HP Die Expression feature. By taking into account
the Constitution score of the monster and what size hit die it
uses, it will generate a proportionately scaled die expression
that is as close to the scaled HP value as possible.
Note: A monster's size determines what hit die it uses. Be sure
to put the correct size for an accurate HP Die Expression.
